2014-05-16 GiraffPlus in CNN Article

On May 16th an article titled "Meet Mr. Robin, grandma's robot buddy", written by Kieron Monks, was published in the CNN web edition. The article is about robot carers and systems being trialed to help elderly people and that some researchers warn that robots shouldn't impair people's autonomy.

In the article the GiraffPlus project and the system are highlighted. Project Coordinator Amy Loutfi, researcher at Örebro University in Sweden, describes the purpose of the system and Nonna Ralli, one of the primary test persons in Italy, highlights the different benefits of using the system.

The text ends with:
"Form and function will continue to evolve as scientists try to perfect automated support without breaching ethical barriers. For now, robots such as Mr. Robin offer a priceless escape from isolation for people like Nonna Lea."

"Nonna Lea," 94, is being assisted by the Giraffplus robot carer at her Rome apartment. "It is very useful for older people who prefer to live in their own home where there are memories and comforts," she said.
