Preliminary Evaluation Report

This document describes the GiraffPlus project approach to achieve a user centered design process actively involving users. It includes the achievement according to Task 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3. The user centered design approach encompasses ethical guidance jointly developed in between the partner countries where evaluations are being performed; criteria and recruitment plans and a method for user involvement. The results from the preliminary GiraffPlus prototype evaluation with primary and secondary users show the need for contextualization and customization of scenarios and technical systems. It proves the importance of integrating services into the everyday life of elderly and into the organization of health care systems and the daily work among health care professionals. The utility of the GiraffPlus has been evaluated as high and with continued user participation there are good opportunities to increase acceptance further. The lessons learnt from the installation of the first pilot site contributes with important insights for making a strategy for the next step which is to test the intermediary GiraffPlus prototype in the homes of elderly users in Italy, Spain and Sweden. Conclusions to guide the next step are presented in chapter 7.
